A CroMagnon Aquitaine Gran Perfecto and an Upcoming Podcast Appearance

I’ve been smoking my way through a sampler of RoMaCraft Gran Perfectos that I picked up at Son’s Cigars a while ago, and tonight I selected the Aquitaine Gran Perfecto. I alway thought the CroMagnon was my favorite in the line, and I love smoking them, but I forgot how good the Aquitaine was. This is a great example of how the wrapper makes a difference in flavor, as, if I’m not mistaken, the wrapper is the only difference in the two lines. The CroMagnon has the Broadleaf and the Aquitaine has the Habano wrapper from Ecuador. The Aquitaine is a little lighter, and it has that sugar cane sweetness (my new favorite descriptor), that I really enjoy. I don’t think it’s the format, although the 5 5/8″ x 60 size is neat. I’ll have to dig around the humidor and see if I have any other Aquitaine sizes, or pick some up. I enjoyed the crap out of this cigar! I had previously thought the Neanderthal was my favorite of the Gran Perfecto selection, but this one has replaced it.

Tomorrow evening I will be joining a panel to record an episode of the 1st and 15th Podcast, a bi-monthly podcast with Phil from ComedyCigarsMusic.com and Kap from Kaplowitz Media. We’ll be talking about the Cigar Aficionado Top 25 list that was just published, and, although I haven’t smoked many of the cigars in the top ten,  I have some general comments. Either way, it will be entertaining! As the name of the podcast suggests, it will be available on the 15th, wherever finer podcasts are sold.  Unless I make a fool of myself, then skip it.

I think I have the e-mail thing worked out. Even though I turned off the Feedburner e-mails, they might still be going out, so if you get two different e-mails, my apologies, please bear with me until I get it all cleaned up. Most of you probably delete them or they go to spam anyway!  Until the next time,

Podcast: Episode 12: Kristoff’s Bill Coyne at Pairings Cigar Bar

I know, I know, it’s been way too long between episodes.  I finally got my act together and recorded one, and I have Bill Coyne, the area Kristoff Cigars rep, to thank. He reached out to me and suggested we meet up for a smoke at Pairings Cigar Bar in Media PA. I’ve been itching to get to Pairings, but, as someone who doesn’t drink, bars aren’t really my thing, so it hasn’t been at the top of my priority list. I’ve been hearing great things about their cigar selection in the last year or so, and I figured it was high time I check it out. A Sunday afternoon was a good time, and I had met Bill briefly and wanted to get to know him better. I understand Pairings has some great events, and they have a DJ there on Friday nights, so I guess it gets pretty rockin’ there! I’m old, I like quite places to relax with a cigar…and we had a nice quite chat about Kristoff cigars, Pairings and Hockey.

Thanks to Bill for chatting with me, and Pairings Cigar Bar and their wonderful staff! The next time Bill and I will delve into the topic of prog rock drummers! Until the next time,

Podcast: Episode 11: A Chat with José Blanco at Goose’s

This week I ran into my friend José Blanco at Goose’s Montecristo Lounge in Limerick, PA one morning and smoked an EP Carillo Seleccion Oscuro Especial No. 6 while talked about the newest cigars and Jose’s blending events and other stuff. We could have talked for hours, but I like to keep things short and sweet!

I’ve said it many times before, if you get the chance to go to one of José’s tasting events, do it, it’s a great education and very entertaining! Tell José I said hello!

That’s all for today, until the next time,

Podcast: Episode 10: 2010 Interview with Danny Bonaduce

Since I’ve been preoccupied with other things and have gotten behind, here’s the phone interview I did with Danny Bonaduce of Partridge Family fame back in November of 2010. The transcription is at http://www.cigarcraig.com/celebrity-cigar-chat-with-danny-bonaduce-sunday-november-21-2010/

It’s rough and un-edited, but I thought it was interesting to talk to a celebrity about his take on cigars. Danny was a hoot ta talk to, and, as I mention, transcribing the interview was very arduous!

Myself, Danny and my wife Jenn in 2009 at Mike’s Famous Harley-Davidson in Delaware. He wanted me to sit on his other knee…I declined…

That’s all for today, until the next time,

Podcast: Episode 9: Robert Holt of Southern Draw Cigars

Robert and Craig Selfie

I met up with Robert Holt of Southern Draw Cigars at BnB Cigars in Chestnut Hill, PA last week and hung out for a while. I hadn’t seen Robert since I met him at the 2017 IPCPR show, so we caught up over some cigars. In this episode we talk about the rapid expansion of the Southern Draw brand, the core lines as well as the charitable outreach cigars they have going on.

Thanks to Robert for taking a few minutes, frankly, he’s a great interview because he’s passionate about his brand and does most of the talking.  Thanks also to Brian and Vince at BnB Cigars for having Robert in and allowing me to steal him for a few minutes. BnB is a great shop in Philadelphia, make sure to check it out if you’re in the area. There are so many great shops in the Philly area, someone should organize a crawl here!

That’s all for today, until the next time,
