News: Liga Privada Unico Pork Beli Ships to Hyde Park Cigars, Chicago

Here’s a news item from the folks at Drew estate. I’m going to be honest, I’m surprised at the name of this one. Not that it directly infringes on any copyrights, but it seems close enough to something else in the market to cause more confusion than, say confusing Kuba Kuba for Cuban cigars…regardless, it looks like a great cigar, I’d smoke it!

News: Drew Estate Annouces Liga Privada 10 Year Anniversario Cigar

Ok, this is the press release I’ve been looking forward to!  See, back at the 2016 IPCPR show they displayed the 10th anniversary cigar, and I want to say they had a 100th anniversary cigar too, you see, the FDA had just scared the crap out of the cigar industry with their “deeming regulations” and everyone thought that if they were ever going to sell anything new again they were going to have to get it on the market right then and there! I managed to purchase a Liga Privada 10 Year Anniversario in September of 2016, and smoked it the following April (written about here). So, here’s the poop on the real release of the 10th anniversary Liga Privada, the cigar that came to be because Steve Saka asked Nick Melillo to make him something he could f@#&*ing smoke.

Drew Estate announces today Liga Privada 10 – Year Aniversario, a cigar that we spared no expense in creating to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of Liga Privada. The 10 – Year Aniversario will be displayed in Drew Estate’s Booth at the IPCPR Convention and Tradeshow held, July 14-17, 2018 in Las Vegas Nevada.

Our dedication to collaborate with the most renowned growers in the Connecticut River Valley resulted in the next chapter of Liga, the Liga Privada 10 – Year Aniversario. This full throttle beast of peppery spice is swathed in a robust Criollo capa from the heart of the Valley, where we grow the mighty leaf that graces Liga Privada. Featuring a San Andres Otapan Negro Último Corte capote that adds razor sharp spice and burn to a core blend of well-aged Nicaraguan and Honduran tripa leaf.

Packaged in 10 count boxes featuring a unique Cola de Pescado head, and Pies Tapado foot, the Liga Privada 10 – Year Aniversario toro, 152mm x 52, is available with an MSRP of $179.00 per box.Liga Privada 10thFrom the Wynwood Safehouse, “The hard work began deep in the Valley, hunting for the dense lush leaf required to turn our dream cigar into a reality. This cigar symbolizes the bond of partnership between farmer and manufacturer to grow a Criollo Capa that is worthy of unmatched celebration. Exclusively grown for Drew Estate, I challenged Willy Herrera and the factory team at La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate to create the cigar that could live up to the Broadleaf Bully that we have come to love, to celebrate the 10 years of Liga Privada.”

The production is limited to only 10,000 cigars or (1,000 boxes) of the Liga Privada 10-Year Aniversario Toro celebrating the 10-year anniversary. The Robusto, Corona Doble, and Torpedo sizes will be available in the future after additional crop harvests.

From Little Havana, Miami, Master Blender Willy Herrera, “It was a deep honor to be entrusted with adding the next chapter to Liga Privada and leading the Factory Blending Team. I am proud to report that the harvests of the Connecticut Criollo by our farmers were successfully fermented at La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate, and the cigars have been aging for this celebration. We have worked out the details in regard to fermentation time, style, and temperature. Much like we had to learn with No. 9 Broadleaf and T52 Habano, we continue to increase the amount of Connecticut Criollo we can ferment.  This does not come with insignificant risk as one small mistake can ruin the entire crops we have harvested. Our farm team is already planting the next harvest of Connecticut Criollo for this upcoming growing season, however this cigar will be extremely limited for the next few years as we continue to invest in our ability to manufacture with this exquisite tobacco.”

News: Drew Estate Anounces the Liga Privada H99 Connecticut Corojo

I’ll be honest, I didn’t see this one coming. Corojo crown in the Connecticut river valley!  There can’t be a lot of this grown with success, I can’t believe I missed hearing any buzz on this. One wonders how it relates to the Florida Sun Grown tobacco? I can’t wait to try it. I expect one more big news story from DE tomorrow…

Drew Estate announces today that Liga Privada H99 Connecticut Corojo will join the Liga Privada No. 9 and Liga Privada T52 brand family. Liga Privada H99 Connecticut Corojo will be displayed in Drew Estate’s Booth at the IPCPR Convention and Tradeshow held, July 14-17, 2018 in Las Vegas Nevada.

H99-1

LigaPrivada H99 ToroPatience and a never-ending drive to craft the world’s most exceptional cigars are deeply rooted in the 10 year history of Liga Privada. Maintaining the core tenants of the Liga firebrand, the H99 features a Corojo capa from the heart of the Connecticut River Valley, where we grow the mighty leaf that graces Liga Privada with a San Andres Otapan Negro Último Corte capote over a core blend of well-aged Nicaraguan and Honduran tripa leaf. The marked contrast between naturally sweet tobacco spice with dense earthy layers produces a luxuriously rich smoke that fully reveals itself in an epic finish.

The Liga Privada H99 toro is packaged in a 24 count box, 152mm x 52, with an MSRP of $343.92 per box. Additional sizes are planned for future release.

H99-2

From the Wynwood Safehouse, Jonathan Drew, President and Founder of Drew Estate, “Following the revolution in Cuba, the Corojo seed took roots in Florida, Nicaragua, and Honduras. Growing Corojo in new climates produced mixed results and much heartache for those who chose to grow it. By creating hybrids of Corojo the leaf was reborn keeping all of its spice and potency intact.  Hibrido or Hybridization is a farm-level process utilized for decades to create tobacco that is disease resistant, but also to display the qualities of an unmatched capa.”

From Little Havana, Miami, Willy Herrera Master Blender, “We started the process of fermenting Connecticut Corojo alongside Connecticut Criollo tobacco at the factory. The factory team and I conjured up numerous blends but ultimately, we selected the blend featuring the Otapan Negro Ultimo Corte capote for its spiciness that pairs with the sweetness of corojo. Our job now is to continue working with the farmers to increase the wrapper yield with each harvest year over year. It’s been long hours preparing for the national release. This leaf is unique.”

News: Drew Estate Announces Small Ring Gauge Sizes for Liga No. 9 and T52 and New Papas Fritas Size

Here’s the daily news from Drew Estate, I’m still waiting to receive one we’ve all seen teased, maybe tomorrow…anyway, they soft-launched the Corona Viva size of the Ligas at CI’s Cigarfest earlier this year, but I didn’t see the other sizes coming. I guess there was a lot of smaller than normal leaves in the Connecticut Broadleaf harvest a few years ago. Anyway, I smoked a corona sizes No. 9 a few years ago that Saka had made up special, thanks to Coop, and it was pretty fantastic. You may fond this odd, but I’m not a huge fan of small cigars, but I’ll give these a try, and it stands to reason if they are making a bunch more first run cigars they will have picadura available to make the “Fritas”, be it Papas, or Nasty.

Drew Estate announces the Corona Viva, Short Panatela, and Petit Corona vitola extensions for Liga Privada No. 9 and T52, as well as the Unico Serie Nasty Fritas will be available for Drew Diplomat Retailers. Each of the DDRP releases will be displayed in Drew Estate’s Booth at the IPCPR Convention and Tradeshow held, July 14-17, 2018 in Las Vegas Nevada.

The No. 9 and T52 Corona Viva, Short Panatela, and Petit corona will now be core sizes of the No. 9 and T52 lines, featuring the Liga Connecticut River Valley Broadleaf and Stalk Cut Habano blends, over plantation grown Brazilian Mata Fina binders, and Nicaraguan and Honduran fillers.

  • Liga Privada No. 9 Corona Viva 178 mm x 46 parejo, 24 CT, $290.40
  • Liga Privada No. 9 Short Panatela 114 mm x 46 parejo, 24 CT, $220.32
  • Liga Privada No. 9 Petit Corona 108 mm x 46 parejo, 24 CT, $240.24
  • Liga Privada T52 Corona Viva 178 mm x 46 parejo, 24 CT, $290.40
  • Liga Privada T52 Short Panatela 114 mm x 46 parejo, 24 CT, $220.32
  • Liga Privada T52 Petit Corona, 108 mm x 46 parejo, 24 CT, $240.24
  • Liga Privada Unico Serie Nasty Fritas, 101 mm x 52 conical vitola, 50 CT, $325.00

LigasNasty

The Nasty Fritas utilizes a Connecticut Broadleaf Oscuro wrapper and a plantation grown Brazilian Mata Fina binder over Nicaraguan and Honduran fillers. Like the Papas Fritas, the Nasty Fritas filler tobacco incorporates left over tobacco leaves that are short cut through the manufacture of Liga Privada No. 9 and Liga Privada T52 cigars.

From the Wynwood Safehouse, “We have been vibing on the Nasty Fritas at Cigar Safari. When the Diplomat App came out, the Papas Fritas quickly became a fan favorite with “Papas Fritas Tuesdays” and the Lit Mafia. I was telling a group at Safari about Nacatahuevos, which is my creation of Nacatamale with 2 over easy eggs on top. The group was like that’s the Esteliano version of getting nasty on some French fries. We’ve been enjoying it mostly at Cigar Safari in Nicaragua, but its time to get mega nasty with our homies.”

The Flying Pig is one of the most sought-after sizes in the company’s portfolio, presented in a 100mm x 60 ring gauge parejo vitola and is a favorite amongst cigar enthusiasts. The shape is based off a photograph of an 1895 cigar salesman’s size selection case. It is one of the most complicated vitolas to manufacture due to the unique size and signature pig-tail, which requires specialized training of the buncheros and rolleras at the factory. The Liga Privada No. 9 Flying pig and Liga Privada T52 Flying Pig is manufactured at La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate in Esteli, Nicaragua. The No. 9 features a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper, Plantation Grown Brazilian Mata Fina Binder and filler leaves from Nicaragua and Honduras. The Undercrown Maduro features a Mexican San Andres Maduro wrapper, Connecticut Stalk Cut and Sun cured Habano binder, and Brazilian Mata Fina and Nicaraguan Habano filler leaves.
