News: Herrera Esteli Connecticut Broadleaf Lancero Goes Nationwide

Last one, I promise (unless I get another e-mail this morning!) This one has my attention. Stogies in Houston has an amazing track record of curating a fine selection of lanceros, I’ve had the good fortune of having sampled a few. Willie  Herrera has an amazing track record of having blended some fine cigars, even a few in the lancero format, and I’ve been fortunate to have sampled a few of those as well. One doesn’t see a great many Connecticut Broadleaf lanceros, so I’m really looking forward to getting my paws on some of these.

Herrera Esteli Connecticut Broadleaf Lancero Goes Nationwide

Drew Estate announces today the national launch of the Herrera Esteli Connecticut Broadleaf Lancero Tienda Exclusiva, exclusively to Drew Diplomat Retailers. This release will be showcased on the upcoming Freestyle Live: Special Edition hosted on facebook.com/drewestatecigar on June 11th from 7:00-9:00pm EST.

Initially launched as a Tienda Exclusiva to STOGIES World Class Cigar in 2016, the Herrera Esteli Connecticut Broadleaf Lancero is a testament to those aficionados who obsess over the smaller ring gauge vitola for its unique smoking experience. Every year Drew Estate pulls aside exceptional, higher priming broadleaf to use for limited edition releases, including this meticulously blended cigar. Featuring a high priming of Connecticut Broadleaf capa, with a bold Brazilian Mata Fina binder and rich Nicaraguan fillers, this Broadleaf Lancero is packaged in 15-count boxes and is a masterpiece from the mind of Drew Estate Master Blender Willy Herrera.

From El Titan de Bronze in Little Havana, Drew Estate Master Blender Willy Herrera exclaims, “There is always a challenge to blending lanceros. Sure, you have amazing broadleaf that’s going to really provide that burst of rich flavor, but the trick is how you bunch the filler leaves in a way that provides the complexity, so the cigar doesn’t become one dimensional. I knew when I first sampled this blend it was going to be loved, and now is the time to unleash it through our Drew Diplomat Retailers.”

From the Wynwood Safehouse, Jonathan Drew President and Founder of Drew Estate adds, “Our Pre-Industry Team at La Gran Fabrica work Connecticut Broadleaf very hard in the pilones, using air flow, bulk pressure, water, and heat over years to reach the maximum flavor and color. Willy and the Production Team then follow up this process in blending this beautiful material into majestic blends for Liga Privada No. 9, Nica Rustica, as well as this very Herrera Lancero that we’re bragging about today.  The Herrera Lancero hits a whole new broadleaf profile, super delicious. As An Phan, our Senior Brand Manager says, “APPROVED.”

The Herrera Esteli Connecticut Broadleaf Lancero Tienda Exclusiva is sold in 15-count boxes with an MSRP of $186.96 and will be shipping in September.

News: Drew Estate BOTL 2020 Releases Announced

I have to say it, does anyone think it’s funny that a cigar that was started as an internet forum cigar is a B&M exclusive? I just picked up on this and it hit my funny bone. Anyway, it’s a great smoke, I enjoyed the Lancero and Corona Gorda quite a bit.

Brick & Mortar exclusive for Drew Diplomat retailers. This release will be showcased on the upcoming Freestyle Live: Special Edition hosted on facebook.com/drewestatecigar on June 11th from 7:00-9:00pm EST.

In 2012, the BOTL cigar platform was created to pay homage to the brothers and sisters of our culture and passion, those with extreme knowledge and true fellowship of premium leaf.  With a lineup of three aficionado sizes, including Corona (5″ x 44), Corona Gorda (6 x 46), and Lancero (7×38), Drew Estate pays tribute to the core, traditional, discerning lord puffer.  B.O.T.L. Brown Label is blanketed in a bold broadleaf wrapper, layered in complexity with an Ecuadorian Connecticut binder and rich fillers from the North of Nicaragua.

From deep inside the Wynwood Safehouse, Jonathan Drew Founder and President of Drew Estate writes, “In the words of the honorable Notorious B.I.G,  “I been in this game for years; it made me an animal; there’s rules to this shit; so I wrote me a manual; a step by step booklet for you to get; your game on track; not your wig pushed back.”  On a personal level, the B.O.T.L Brown Label provokes each lord puffer to ask the question for him or herself,  “Am I a B.O.T.L./S.O.T.L. or not?  If I am, then let’s burn it down.  If I’m not, that’s ok too .. let me feel this beast out and see what it’s all about.  B.O.T.L. News: Tabak Especial Lonsdale and ACID 20 Toro and Tubo Cigars

I’m cheating here with a Drew Estate twofer, it’s two in the infused lines and you know that’s not really my area of focus. All the info is here, I’m just conserving some time and energy. In my defense, I do enjoy the occasional Tabak Especial, and I have had one Acid 20 and thought it was pretty good.

Tabak Especial Goes Mad Elegant with New Lonsdale Size

Drew Estate announces today the release of the Tabak Especial Lonsdale line-extension in both Dulce and Negra. This release will be showcased on the upcoming Freestyle Live: Special Edition hosted on facebook.com/drewestatecigar on June 11th from 7:00-9:00pm EST.

Historically, the “Lonsdale” size cigar has been underappreciated, especially in the United States.  However, spark one up and you’ll see why it’s so loved with seasoned cigar enthusiasts … and the Tabak Especial Lonsdale is no exception.  Perfect for pairing with your morning coffee, the Tabak Especial Dulce Lonsdale is a 6 ¾” x 44 vitola wrapped in a creamy Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, with lush Sumatran binder and rich Nicaraguan fillers. When you’re enjoying an after-dinner Espresso, however, you will want to grab a Tabak Especial Negra Lonsdale. This elegant smoke is wrapped in a very dense Maduro wrapper, and is the bold pick me up you need after a heavy dessert. Both Tabak Especial Lonsdale expressions are packaged in 10 count boxes, perfect for the grab and go.

From the Wynwood Safehouse, Jonathan Drew Founder and President of Drew Estate pontificates,  “I remember back when we created the coffee infused space in like 2002, we used to tell dudes to burn one in the morning with their coffee … and they’d laugh at us … until they actually tried it.  Then, they were like “wow, these Tabak are str8 fire.”  So, here we are, 18 years later.  We wanted to drop a Tabak Especial that’s really regal, something majestic and upscale, but it had to have a high wrapper component … and this forgotten Lonsdale size was the perfect selection.  This royal Lonsdale’s got mad, heavy wrapper game and stupidity level taste, fresh gold elegance dripping all over that burner. Indeed, very proud to say that our gold gilded Lonsdale is pure class and satisfaction. On another note, its somewhat surprising to see just how many hard-core, full-bodied, strong cigar smokers really love our coffee infused selections, especially Tabak Especial.  It’s all love.”

The Tabak Especial Lonsdale is available in both Dulce and Negra, packaged in 10 count boxes with an MSRP of $85.10 per box and are shipping in July.

ACID 20 Anniversary Line Grows with Release of “Toro” and “Robusto Tubo” Sizes

Drew Estate announces today the expansion of the ACID 20th Anniversary lineup with the addition of ACID 20 Toro and ACID 20 “Robusto Tubo.”  These releases will be showcased on the upcoming Freestyle Live: Special Edition hosted on facebook.com/drewestatecigar on June 11th from 7:00-9:00pm EST.

In 2019, we celebrated an important milestone for Drew Estate with the global introduction of the chromed-out, smash hit, ACID 20 Anniversary.  Now, by popular demand, we premier the ACID 20 Toro (6” x 50) as well as the original ACID 20 Robusto in a new Tubo presentation.  Wrapped in a rich Mexican maduro capa, complimented with subtly evolving long filler leaves, ACID 20 is truly worthy of its double decade title.

From the Wynwood Safehouse, Jonathan Drew Founder and President of Drew Estate recalls, “When we released ACID Cigars in 1999, we felt like it was “us against the world.”  They said that “we would be out of business in two months” and we even had a friend say “you won’t even last two weeks.”  But we knew that we created something special, something beautiful … so we decided to fight for it and not look back.  I think that the pain behind our struggle to survive for so many years made the debut of Acid 20 feel that much more impactful.  We wish to thank those of you who took the journey by our side, 1400CC, pedal to the metal.  Sincere appreciation for believing in us.”

The ACID 20 Toro (6”x 50) is packaged in 24 count boxes with an MSRP of $232.34/box and will be shipping in June.

The ACID 20 Robusto Tubo (5” x 50 box-pressed) is packaged in 5 count petaca box with an MSRP of $49.25/box and will be shipping in October.

Some DE News and the Contest Winner Announcement!

I’m doing my best to try to maintain some semblance of normalcy in what’s turning into quite the shitshow of a 2020, quite frankly. I’m not sure how else to characterize it. I have my feelings on things, but I’m just going to try to stick to my “don’t be a dick” mantra, and keep on doing what I need to do to get through the day. Not to be outdone, Joya de Nicaragua has been announcing new stuff too:

JOYA DE NICARAGUA DARES YOU TO “SHUT THE BOX”

A LIMITED AND PLAYFUL EDITION OF THE LEGENDARY ANTAÑO

Back in 2012, Dr. Alejandro Martínez Cuenca, Chairman of Joya de Nicaragua, won his first game of Shut the Box. He was on tour, visiting old friends in the cigar industry, and in one stop at Havana Mix Shop in Memphis, TN, he was challenged to a game.  As a numbers guy, backed by a PhD in Economics, he accepted the dare. You could argue that an exact science has nothing to do with rolling the dice, or you could simply try to shut the box!

Shut the Box is a traditional American game that Dr. Alejandro Martínez Cuenca has become obsessed with and dares anybody to challenge him!  “I never thought that day I would discover one of my now favorite pastimes, and moreover, that 8 years after, my team would come up with the idea of making a cigar box that transforms into it.  The best of all is that now I’ll find it in cigar lounges across America when I visit,” explained Dr. Alejandro Martínez Cuenca, Chairman of the Board.Antaño is one of Joya de Nicaragua’s oldest and most succes

sful blends of all time.  Launched in 2001, it is considered by many as the first real full body cigar in the market.   An innovative approach of the most traditional factory in Nicaragua, that became an iconic cigar for American smoke

rs, now considered a true classic.  With a Nicaraguan Habano Wrapper and Nicaraguan Binder and Fillers, this cigar is an ultra robust, spicy smoke with an earthy finish, and unbridled body and aroma, which showcase the authentic Nicaraguan Puro.

Antaño Shut the Box Limited Edition is a special gift from Fábrica de Tabacos Joya de Nicaragua to those loyal consumers that have been supporting the brand for almost 20 years.  It has manufactured 500 Collector’s Edition boxes of each of the two most popular vitolas in this blend, JDN’s signature Gran Cónsul (4 ¾ x 60 – MSRP $ 182/box or $9.10/stick) and Robusto Grande (5 ½ x 52 – MSRP $169/box or $8.45/stick).  After the cigars have been enjoyed, the box is ready to play “Shut the Box”.

“For many years we have been thinking about ideas on how to make our empty boxes be useful after all cigars are smoked, and this is how we decided to let people have some fun.  At the moment, we didn’t know we were going to be bringing to smokers a special game so useful these days that we have to stay longer at home,” said Juan Ignacio Martínez, Executive President.

Antaño Shut the Box will be available to stores across the country as of June 2020, and will come in the traditional 20 count boxes, with cigars, instructions and two dice ready to be played with those closest to you.  The perfect kit for cigar smokers that want to add some fun to their smoke.

Contest Winner!

I am still throwing cigars in a bag, but so far, along with a Year of the Rat as promised, I’ve included a Nica Rustica Belly from the launch event in Louisville KY in July of 2015 and one each of the new Undercrown Corona Pequeños. I’ll rummage around and find some more to add, I’m sure there will be some Joyas too. I’ve consulted the Random Number Generator, and, as Patrick H predicted, it got close to him, but missed him by this much!  Patrick G is the winner! Please send your address so I can get this stuff out to you. I just thought of two more great cigars to put in while I was typing this! Thanks so much to Drew Estate for sending me the Liga Privada Survival Kit and the other swag I’ve collected over the years! It brings me great joy to give stuff like this away! It’s a good thing they didn’t send one of those Benchmade knife/cutters or we wouldn’t have been having a contest, those things are wicke

Contest: A Drew Estate Goodies Giveaway!

I’ve been talking about having a contest for a while, and thinking about doing it for longer, and I finally have gotten around to it. My friends at Drew Estate sent me a really neat item that I think you’ll really like, and I have some other cool stuff to add too. I love stuff as much as the next guy, but I have an abundance of riches, and it’s much more fun to share. The main item is a Liga Privada Survival Kit! It’s a Tin containing a really cool folding knife, a tactical flashlight and a backpack (please note that I did not open. up the backpack to take a photo because I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to get it folded back up right. I’m sure it’s cool)! I’m going to add a camo Barnsmoker cap and some other DE odds and ends, and some assorted Drew Estate Cigars from my humidors! Those who have won my contests in the past can attest to the fact that when I say that I’m throwing some cigars in, I throw some cigars in! One cigar will be a new Year of the Rat, I’ll tell you that.

So if you don’t know the rules already, just leave a comment on this post, not on Facebook, Twitter or anywhere else, just this post! Just one comment per person please, and I’ll select a winner by random drawing next Wednesday, June 3, 2020. You must be 21 or older to win, so I don’t get in trouble, and I’ll request proof of age. I gotta CMA. Feel free to tell your friends, unless you’re afraid that will reduce your chances! Many thanks to Drew Estate for the goodies! Good Luck!

Edit: I poached a picture with the backpack:
