Cigars on My Tropical Getaway and a Contest!

We just returned from a brief getaway to San Juan, Puerto Rico, where we spent a few days sitting on the beach and doing nothing else. I really had no plans to visit any cigar shops as I took plenty to smoke, but I ran across a couple shops and, of course, had to stop in. When I vacation my modus operandi is to take favorite cigars that I know I enjoy and I’m confident that will perform well, I’m there to relax and I don’t want any surprises or disappointments! So if you follow my Instagram or Facebook feeds you’ll see my smoking relatively run of the mill (for me) cigars, but I love them and they bring me joy. As we were wondering around our “neighborhood of

Isla Verde, we came across a little cigar shop in a strip mall (http://www.cigarit.com/). It had a small walk in humidor with some classic selections, good stuff, reasonable prices, and the guy working there was very nice and knowledgeable. I made a courtesy buy of a Joya de Nicaragua Antaño Belicoso, which is in the humidor now. Yesterday, as we were walking around Old San Juan after having lunch, we happened across The Cigar House. I literally smelled it walking by, as the road was narrow and I didn’t see the sign, nor was I looking for it. It was a happy accident. This place had been recommended to me, and for good reason. The humidor is enormous and well stocked. If our trip had been a week later, we would have caught Erik Espinosa and Guy Fieri there for the Knuckle Dragger launch! I bought a Tatuaje T111 Broadleaf and enjoyed it in their comfortable lounge. It was a very relaxing trip, the weather was perfect, we got some sun, and had some great cigars on the beach.

We arrived home to a find package on the porch from my friends at Drew Estate. It had just been delivered, people were home, it’s not like it sat there all week! Anyway, it seems like the sort of thing that someone may need more than I do, so let’s have a giveaway! This is a neat 20 Acre Farm leather cigar case with five 20 Acre Farm cigars. The case has pockets for accessories and cigars, wrapped in embossed white leather. It’s nifty.

So, you know the drill! Leave a comment on this blog post, no where else, to enter. I’ll pick a winner next Sunday, March, 6, 2022. Must be of legal age to win, and the winner will need to email me with their details (that’s the internet equivalent of  “must be present to win”, I guess, meaning don’t make me work too hard to give you stuff!). I might add some other goodies in as well!  Thanks to the folks at Drew Estate for making this possible!

That’s all for now, I have some stuff to catch up on. Until the next time,

News: Reinado Premium Cigars Adding
Grand Apex 6 X 60

Here’s one more news item from my friend Antonio at Reinado Cigars. Why all the news while I’m sitting on my balcony overlooking the ocean trying to relax with nothing but an iPhone to publish content with? Got

ta head to the beach and light up a cigar…

Reinado Cigars will begin shipping the new Grand Apex 6 X 60 in February. Production will be at Aganorsa’s TABSA factory in Nicaragua. It joins

the current Robusto Extra, which measures 5.5 x 52.

“Early indications of success for this blend have provided the leverage required to expand the Grand Apex product line,” said Antonio Lam, owner of Reinado Premium Cigars, in a press release. “The quality of tobacco included from Aganorsa Leaf in our blend has created a buzz on social media as well as brick and mortar retail shops.

The robusto extra has also been included among reputable brands on several Top Cigars of 2021 lists. We’re happy to have such positive responses to the robusto extra and are thrilled to be releasing a larger vitola for the consumers wanting more of the rich notes
found in the blend.”

The Grand Apex blend utilizes a San Andres wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and fillers. The 6 X 60 size will have an MSRP of $12.75 per cigar. Production will be initially 3,000 cigars in 15-count boxes. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Dementia Society of America.

News: Black Label Trading Co Announces Memento Mori

Still on vacation. This came through and I wanted to share. Posted from my phone as I’m traveling light. Looks like a cigar I’ll like! I imagine we’ll get them in Son’s!

Black Label Trading Company(BLTC) is releasing MEMENTO MORI in three vitolas to select retailers early next month. Memento Mori is is hand crafted at Fabrica Oveja Negra in Esteli, Nicaragua.

MEMENTO MORI is symbolic of the inevitability of death and serves as a reminder tomorrow is not promised. Live life today.

“Memento Mori is exactly what you envision when you think of a Black Label Trading Co. cigar. From its appearance to its flavor profile, this cigar is all about the darkness. The Memento Mori started as a factory exclusive, and I loved it so much, I wanted to release it to the general public. The flavor profile is bold, rich, earthy, with notes of dried dark fruits and bitter cocoa. The retrohale brings the spice with white pepper, and cinnamon on the finish. Overall, this cigar is the perfect balance between strength and complexity,” says James Brown, creator of BLTC and partner at Fabrica Oveja Negra.

I’m taking cigars I enjoy on my trip, so I don’t know that I’ll have much new to talk about on Sunday, but I’ll certainly try to come up with somethi

TPE2022: Recluse Cigars and an Amadeus Los Cabos

I first learned of Iconic Leaf and Recluse Cigars at the 2012 IPCPR show where I talked to them about their cigars. I was pleased to see Scott Weeks at the TPE after not having seen him for several years. I still have a handful of Recluse cigars in my humidor, but one I

never got around to trying was the Recluse Amadeus Los Cabos.  The original Amadeus has a bit of a sentimental place for me, it’s a nice Connecticut wrapped cigar, and the Habano version is very nice, so this is the third in the series. It’s named for Cabo San Lucas in Mexico because that’s a po

pular vacation spot, and a cigar is a little vacation, which is something I’ve said for years: it’s my daily vacation. It has a San Andrés wrapper over a Sumatra binder and Dominican and Nicaraguan fillers.  It’s box pressed and, like all of the cigars made in this factory, rolled entubado. The burn and draw were excell ent, and it was a tasty smoke. It has some dark fruit and earthy flavors, with hints of coffee and cocoa.  I’m sorry it took so long for me to try th

is one, I guess I’m going to have to get some more, as I only mooched one of these off of Scott at the show. I wanted to smoke the Factory Production Run sample that Scott talks about in the video, but time wasn’t on my side this week.

Today’s video with Scott Weeks from the TPE runs quite a bit longer than most of my videos. If you know of Scott, you’ll understand, he’s not prone to brevity. Scott is the king of folksy clichés, and sprinkles a few here and there throughout the video. He’s a good dude, I always enjoy spending time with him.

This week is going to be tricky as my wife and I are taking a long weekend to a tropical location. I’ll try to get some content posted before leaving, then i should be back for my usual Sunday BS, where maybe I’ll have something to talk about from the trip. Anyway, that’s all for today, until the next time,
