News: Joya de Nicaragua Extends Modern Lineup with JOYA SILVER
There’s been a lot of pre-IPCPR news coming out that doesn’t rally fit in with what I think the overall theme of my blog is, and I skip over a lot of stories that don’t interest me and, by extension, I don’t feel like my readers would be interested in. I’m sure most readers see
these stories elsewhere so it’s not like your really missing out anyway. I happen to have an affinity for Joya de Nicaragua going back many years, so when they have news to share, chances are I’ll be passing it along:
National Release of Silver Shines on JOYA Family of Cigars
The Joya line-up represents the adventurous and non-traditional side of the Most Nicaraguan Cigar. With it, JDN has pushed the limits of our factory and showcased the many sides of our people and products, varying from mellow and flavorful blends like Joya
Cabinetta, going through fun and friendly cigars like Joya Red, and more sophi
sticated complex like Black.
“With each Joya, we’ve aimed to cater to modern aficionados by accompanying them through their smoking journey, from beginners to connoisseurs; the line-up represents an evolution of flavor and complexity, each blend being a distinct and peculiar perspective of Nicaraguan tobacco interfused with leaves from other origins. Another feature of our Joya line is that it comes at incredible retail price. With Joya Silver we’re expanding this experience with a medium to full ble
nd,” said Juan Martínez, Joya de Nicaragua Executive President. He continued,
“Together with already popular Joya variants, Silver will continue to generate excitement among modern smokers and make their taste exploration much more rewarding.”
“In the year of our 50th anniversary, we want to be recognized as a cigar factory that delivers the expected timeless quality of a Nicaraguan cigar, but that is also willing to evolve and take on new challeng
es. On top of creating a cigar for the Joya Line with a more complex flavor profile, we wanted to create a strong visual impact. Joya Silver’s packaging is probably the edgiest in our portfolio, making it a smoke that shines.” said Mario Pérez, Joya de Nicaragua’s General Manager.
JOYA SILVER will be available in four sizes:
- Ultra 6 1⁄4 x 46, MSRP $6.30
- Toro 6 x 52, MSRP $7.80
- Corona 5 1⁄4 x 42, MSRP $6.30
- Robusto 5 x 50, MSRP $7.10
JOYA SILVER will be available to all US retail shops during the upcoming IPCPR 86th Annual Convention and Trade Show in Las Vegas in July 2018. As usual, Drew Estate will distribute the brand in the USA as part of our exclusive agreement. SILVER will also be available worldwide through our International Marketing Division and JDN’s partners.

News: Mombacho Cigars Announces Shipment of Cosecha 2013
There’s a secondary piece of good news here, and that’s that product is getting out of Nicaragua. I smoked the Cosecha 2012 last year in the desert of Las Vegas at Mombacho’s media party and it was really good, although the environment was less than ideal. I have a lot of good memories from that event, meeting the Mombacho team, seeing old media friends and spending some time with the late Gary Laden among them. I still can’t remember if I like the Mombacho Liga Maestro or Tierra Volcan, one I didn’t care for and one I loved. Anyway, take a read about the new Cosecha 2013:
MOMBACHO CIGARS ANNOUNCES WORLDWIDE SHIPMENT OF COSECHA 2013
After a seven-week delay, Cosecha 2013, a yearly limited edition release from Mombacho Cigars, has shipped to the United States, Canada and Europe.
Mombacho Cigars S.A. announced today that the highly anticipated Cosecha 2013 has shipped to the United States. Cosecha 2013 is a vintage Nicaraguan puro and will be available at select cigar retailers in the near future. The shipment of this special cigar was delayed nearly two months due to the turmoil currently engulfing the country of Nicaragua. The cigars will be distributed to retailers around the world once they reach the US.
“Cosecha is a project that has been in my heart since the day I started working with Mombacho,” said Claudio Sgroi, President and Master Blender of Mombacho Cigars. “True vintage is hard to find in the cigar industry and we have created a cigar that showcases the best of Nicaraguan tobaccos with Cosecha. Cosecha 2012 was great and Cosecha 2013 may be even better.”
The Spanish word “Cosecha” translates to “harvest” in English and is the perfect name to convey the genuine vintage nature of the Cosecha line. The Cosecha 2013 is the second release of this limited vintage line and features Nicaraguan tobaccos harvested in 2013. The cigars have been in the aging room at Casa Favilli, Mombacho’s factory in Granada, since 2014. Currently, Cosecha 2014 and 2015 have already been rolled and are resting in the aging room at Casa Favilli until ready for distribution.
Cosecha 2013 is a 6 x 52 toro with a pigtail cap and is available in 10-count boxes with an MSRP of $21.95 per cigar. A total of 800 boxes were produced. The entire production of Cosecha 2013 sold out due to the quick growth in demand from cigars smokers around the world.
“The Cosecha line has become our most highly anticipated and sought after cigar,” said Robert Rasmussen, Brand Manager of Mombacho Cigars. “Cosecha 2012 was a huge hit for us and I’m expecting Cosecha 2013 to be even bigger.”
The current unrest in Nicaragua has caused many delays in the cigar industry and the release of Cosecha 2013 was no exception. “The situation in Nicaragua has put many of us behind. Things are getting better and we are working hard to keep our team safe and get back to a normal schedule,” said Sgroi.

News: Island Lifestyle Importers Releasing Island Club Cigars
Happy Independence Day! Here’s another news item from Island Lifestyle Importers! I smoked a sample of this last week and wrote about it in last Sunday’s post. I really enjoyed it and the price is incredible, a premium cigar at a budget price. Read on:
Island Lifestyle Importers is releasing for national distribution the “Island Club” line of cigars at this year’s International Premium Cigar & Pipe Retailers (IPCPR) Convention in Las Vegas. The Island Club cigar is comprised of all aged Nicaraguan filler and binder tobacco and wrapped in a beautiful Ecuadorian Connecticut leaf with a covered foot. These cigars are manufactured in a boutique factory in Esteli, Nicaragua by 9 pairs of dedicated rollers.
The line consists of five sizes: Robusto 5×52, Corona Gorda 5⅝x46, Toro 6×52, Torpedo 6⅛x52, Churchill 7×52 and packaged in bundles of 20 cigars. The cigars carry a notably low suggested retail price of $3.95 – $4.75.
· Robusto $4.25
· Toro $4.50
· Torpedo $4.50
· Churchill $4.75
The Island Club Connecticut is a mild to medium cigar in strength but has multiple layers of complex flavors. “While many Connecticut cigars have a grassy or bitter taste, these Island Club cigars have notable flavors of light spice, leather and tea. This is an impressive cigar for any celebration or special occasion but the price point makes them perfect to enjoy while golfing, fishing, hunting or just relaxing with friends.” said Ryan Frailing, Vice President of Island Lifestyle. “From a value proposition they are competing with cigars that are more than twice the price. We believe they are the perfect addition to our lineup of cigars.”
The Island Club cigars will be available along with Island Lifestyle Cigars and Tommy Bahama Luxury Cigar Accessories in the Tommy Bahama/Island Lifestyle Cigars booth (1631) at this year’s show.
Island Lifestyle Importers is the exclusive manufacturer of Island Lifestyle Cigars and Tommy Bahama Luxury Cigar Accessories since 2010. They are also the exclusive world-wide licensee of Tommy Bahama branded accessories since 2015. These accessories are known for their innovative designs, cutting edge technology and island theme inspired art.
