News: C.Gars Auctions Vintage Havana Cigar Auction

Here’s some news from my long time friends at C.Gars Ltd about their upcoming Vintage Havana Cigar Auction on Sunday. I’ll be at a wedding on Sunday in Massachusetts, so let me know how it goes!  I see there are Davidoff Dom Perignon and No. 1s from the 80s listed, I smoked a Dom Perignon from the 70s once at a wedding and it was sublime!  (come to think of it, my wife smoked a similar vintage No. 1 at the same affair and I finished it, also exceptional!) There won’e be anything like that at the wedding this weekend, but I’ll take some good cigars along to share.

A Quick Trip to Miami, El Titan, KMA Talk Radio, Etc.

I don’t get away much, but when an opportunity comes up to take a quick vacation and slip in some cigar stops, we have to take it!  I’ve wanted to have a vacation where we just spend some time doing nothing but relaxing on a beach for years, and we spent a few days doing just that. Having a cigar on the beach in the morning was nice, although it was windy, which created some challenges! We stayed a block from the beach in Miami Beach, so it was a quick walk, and the water was warm! I really enjoyed a DOn Juan Calavera Connecticut and n Umbagog on the beach! Friday we took a drive and dropped in on Joe Gro at Drew Estate‘s offices, which had an “out for lunch” sign on the door, which was initially disappointing, although we did just drop by. We were hoping to surprise CigarProp Kevin and Jessica there, but they ran ahead of schedule and left just before we arrived. We finally gained access and caught up with Joe, who gave us the tour. The warehouse there is enormous, loaded with racks of pallets of cigars. The offices are as you’d expect, decorated with all of the great DE swag, and the places where all the creative magic happens. As I said, many were out to lunch, so it wasn’t buzzing with activity, but there were a few familiar faces there! Thanks Joe!

We left Drew Estate to try to catch up with  Kevin And Jessica in Little Havana. I know that I could spend a week in Miami and not visit all of the cigar places I would like to see, or see all of the people I want, but this was a short trip. If there was one place to visit in Little Havana, I figured it would be El Titan de Bronze. We arranged to meet up with the CigarProps there. This is where one of my favorite cigars is (was?) made, and

many great cigars are made. It’s amazing how many amazing cigars this little factory makes, considering they have eight rollers. We were fortunate to gain audience with Sandy Cobas, who gave us a tour. What a wonderful woman! She welcomed us and treated us like family and we couldn’t have been more fortunate. She showed us the aging rooms, introduced us to her mother, who was working packaging cigars and was very funny. They recommended a wonderful restaurant where we went to a late lunch/early dinner which was very good and we had a nice stroll along Calle Ocho. I always enjoy the times I can spend with my friends Kevin and Jessica. Even though we didn’t get around to enjoying a cigar together this time, it’s always a treat to catch up.

Quick aside, because I know Kevin is a Fan of the Govee sensors too, Amazon’s  Deal of the Day next Wednesday, September 18th is the following two Govee thermometers. They will be 30% OFF directly without coupon code that day.

Previous Price: $75.99
Amazon Price: $49.99

Previous Price: $29.99
Amazon Price: $26.99
Deal of the Day: $18.89 [Sept 18th Only]

I actually really like the Mini Bluetooth one a lot, I have two now and might pick up another one at this price. I have to replace the battery in the WiFi one, I’ve been lazy. They just work. I get nothing out of this, just passing it along. IF you ever want me to get something out of an amazon purchase, there’s a link on the right sidebar, but the next purchase through an affiliate link will be the first!

Friday evening I had the honor and pleasure of meeting up with a couple of great friends that I hadn’t met yet at a lounge close to where I was staying called Cigar Cigar (which is funny, because the chain of stores near my house is called Cigar Cigars). I enjoyed the company of PJ and René and several of their friends while smoking a cigar that I was able to light and smoke without being blown all over the place in the wind! PJ has been a long time reader and I’m sure you’ve seen his comments here and on other popular sites!  He was overly generous and it was the highlight of my trip meeting him and René and Juan Nuñez and enjoying a cigar with them in that comfortable lounge. Thank you, PJ, for setting that up! I see, perhaps, some mermaids in your future…
Before leaving, we took a drive up to West Palm Beach, which, by the way, is not at all on the way to the Miami Airport from Miami Beach! That’s OK, it was worth the drive to visit with my friends Abe, Adam and Paul and be a guest on KMA Talk Radio again. I was also happy to finally meet Rich Otero of PDR Cigars, who was the special guest on the episode. I was glad to talk to Coop briefly too, he was kind in the lies he told about me 😆. I always get nervous doing these shows, and I hope for the best when I put myself out there. It was fun, I probably didn’t get close enough to the mic most of the time, and, as usual, I had trouble getting a word in edgewise. Hopefully I said what I needed to say and didn’t sound too ridiculous. If you want to laugh, listen to last week’s episode with Jack Toraño, that was the funniest episode I’ve heard in a long time! That guy is a real man of genius!  Anyway, I really appreciated Abe and Paul letting me weasel my way onto the show, they were very accommodating!
Today is a recovery day and then it’s back to work tomorrow! Thanks to everyone, especially my wife, for making it a great vacation!  That’s all for today, until the next time,

CigarCraig.com Tenth Anniversary Contest Winner Announcement!

This is going to be a quick one as my wife and I are flying of

f for a few days of R&R.  Thanks to everyone who entered the contest for their kind words and for coming back to read my nonsense over the years! When I first started writing here I never imagined people would read it and it was pretty much just my own amusement and a way to keep track of what I smoked. Who would have thought it would have become whatever it is now!  So thanks to all of you who read it regularly and come across it in searches. There are hundreds of cigars and bunches of accessories discussed in these pages, and dozens of events.  I’m fortunate to know many people as a result.  So I’m going to select two winners from the 40 entries, and each of those two winners is going to get a ten cigar sampler. I know, I pictured 15 cigars, I’ll split them up and make up the difference and both will be equal!  The two winners are

Karl and Michael Lanier! Please send me your addresses so I can send your goodies our when I get back from my trip!

Once again, thanks to everyone for making this worth doing! I hope I can keep it going for as long as possible!  Thanks also to all of the cigar companies and retail partners I’ve had over the years who have made it easier for me to do this.

Thanks!

New La Gloria Cubana Hoyo and Partagas Cigars

Before i get started, don’t forget to go back to Wednesday’s post and enter the contest! It occurred to me (after I got a phone call from Danny Ditkowitch of La Sirena Cigars), that I should smoke a La Sirena Anniversario Especial cigar to celebrate, so I smoked another one of those this week and they are fantastic cigars! Check out my post from June here for the specifics about this outstanding cigar celebrating their tenth anniversary! La Sirena has been one of CigarCraig.com’s longest supporters and I’ve been a fan for even longer.

I received some new samples from General Cigar Co. a few weeks ago, among them was the La Gloria Cubana Spanish Press. I was excited, as I always am, about a new La Gloria Cubana cigar, it’s a brand I have long been a fan of. Sure, there are some cigars in the line I can take or leave, but the majority of the line are cigars I like a lot. The Spanish press has a Nicaraguan Jalapa wrapper, a Mexican San Andrés binder and Brazilian Mata Fina, Dominican Olor , and Nicaraguan Jalapa. The vitola I smoked was the 5½” x 50 robusto. I’ll have to smoke more of these, as the initial cigar didn’t hit my palate with flavors I found particularly in line with my preferences. I’m not sure what it was, but there was a sourness that didn’t hit me right. I’m not one to give up, especially on a favorite brand, so I’ll give it another shot.

Another old favorite brand is the Hoyo de Monterrey, and they came out with a new cigar this year in the Hoyo La Amistad Dark Sumatra. There has been a Hoyo de Monterrey Dark Sumatra made in Honduras around for some time, but this new one is made in Nicaragua by A.J. Fernandez, using the same blend as the original. It has an Ecuador Sumatra wrapper, a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper and Honduran, Nicaraguan and Dominican fillers. This sample was the Noche size, measu

ring 6″ x 52, my favorite size. This cigar started out with a powerful punch! Strong pepper from the get-go, I almost thought it was too strong but I like nice strong cigar followed along on the ride. It mellowed out a little in the middle, continuing to have good, strong flavors of rich, dark, earthy flavors. Near the end the pepper returned and it got stronger again and finished off with as much oomph as it started with. Like the other three cigars in the La Amistad line, I really liked this Dark Sumatra.

Finally, last night I lit up a Partagas Decadas Limited Reserve 2019.  I used to love these when they had the green band. This version is still in the 5 ½” x 49 size, which is a very nice size, and are packaged in a glass tube (my samples were cellophaned). The new band is white, and has a “10” on in, which seemed appropriate to celebrate the site’s 10th anniversary. The ten represents the age of the Cameroon wrapper leaf on this cigar, Partagas is well known for using Cameroon wrappers. For the binder they use the Honduran San Augustine tobacco that General has been using in a great many cigars recently. The filler is Piloto Cubano fro the DR and Ometepe from Nicaragua. Like I said, I always enjoyed smoking the Limited Reserves, and this cigar was no different. It was a smooth smoke, with the subtle nutty flavor from the aged Cameroon wrapper. I have a pretty good assortment of LE Partagas cigars in the humidor, many are good but not

remarkable. These join the Limited Reserves in the remarkable category for me, I like them.

That”s all for today. Check back Wednesday to see who wins the anniversary contest, then I’m off to Miami for a vacation.  Until the next time,

CigarCraig
