The Happy New Year Roberto P. Duran and Assorted Goodies Contest!

I’m sure you’re all tired of cigar giveaways by now, but Jack Toraño at Roberto P. Duran Cigars wanted to get in on the 12SDoCG, and I was full up! Also, I had some extra goodies around that I wanted to find a good home for, so the winner of this event will receive two  shipments, the cigars from Roberto P. Duran in Florida, and one from me.  I’m also going to try out something new (to me), using RaffleCopter to picke my winner.  I’ve included several ways to enter, the usual “leave a comment here”, which is mandatory, visiting my Facebook page, and a daily Tweet option.  More chances to win at the expense of simply signing up for Rafflecopter, which you may already have done!

The Prizes!

From Roberto P. Duran Cigar Company we have a box of the Roberto P. Duran Premium Rio Toa, a beautiful 5″ x 52 Robusto with a Ecuador Habana Criollo wrapper, Nicaraguan binder and a blend of Nicaraguan and Latin American tobaccos in the filler.  I’ve smoked this in the 6″ x 60 size and it’s a very, very good cigar.  In addition to the cigars, I have a Kiss My Ash Radio Ashtray and Cap, a Liga Privada #9 cap from Drew Estate, some hard to find Two Guys Smokeshop and The Cigar Authority caps, The Jet Bag cigar bag, a four pack of Cuba Classic “eau de toilette” men’s cologne, and maybe some cigars and other goodies that might fall into the box while I’m packing it!

That’s it!  Give the RaffleCopter thing a workout and see how many entries you can get!  I’ll announce the winner on Sunday, so there’s plenty of time to enter and Tweet and all!  Happy New Year to you all!  Let me know in the comments, if you want, what your New Years cigar was or will be.

Until Next Year,

To’Makao Fine Cigars and Goose’s Tobacco Outlet and Cafe

It’s been a while since my last normal post.  The two weeks of contests was great, I hope everyone enjoyed winning and having the chance to win a lot of great cigars. Thanks again to all the sponsors!  One of the great things about these contests is when someone reasonably local wins.  I had two such opportunities this year, the first on Day 1.  This saved me postage and allowed me to meet a reader and visit a new store. Adam won the Gurkha goodies, and I met him at To’Makao Fine Cigars in Bethlehem, PA.  This is a nice shop filled with great boutique brands, as well as the owners own line, rolled right there in the shop.  Franklin, the owner, worked for Fuente in the Dominican Republic for many years rolling Fuente Fuente Opus X PerfecXion #2. I don’t know how he ended up in the metropolis of Bethlehem, but he has a very nice shop and lounge.  I bought a few of his cigars, along with some Arandoza Red toros (a recurring theme…), and lit up his Habano wrapped cigar, which was unbanded and I think it was a toro, but it was a week ago, so I can’t remember!  The cigar burned perfectly, and had a nice, mellow sweet flavor.  I spent an hour or so enjoying the cigar and getting to know Adam a bit while enjoying the lounge, which was all but empty. I guess the Sunday before Christmas isn’t a big cigar lounge day.  The lounge is comfortable, the cigars very good, and the hospitality was awesome.  Franklin is a terrific guy, and you should visit him if you are ever in the area. Last night I smoked his maduro, which I believe is in his “Big Papi by Franklin” line, and, again, it was quite nice. Smooth, rich maduro flavors,  quite the unexpected surprise from cigars rolled right here in Pennsylvania.  Of course, PA has a rich tobacco history, but the last cigars I smoked that were made here were quite the opposite of good! Van Slyke and Horton cigars were pretty terrible, and I admit that I haven’t had a John Hay in some time (I treasure my cigar time…but I’ll take one for the team with a John Hay maduro that’s been in the humidor one of these days!).  Great shop, great company. Pictures below.

cellar reserve limitada solaraToday I found myself, once again, in the position to hand deliver another prize. Joe K won the Day 14 prize of Nestor Miranda goodies from Miami Cigar and Co.  I met Joe last year at Goosefest and decided to meet him at Goose’s Tobacco Outlet and Cafe in Limerick, PA.  This was probably my fourth visit to Goose’s, and John Geise, the owner, greeted me warmly and pointed me toward the humidor, where I once again picked up some Arandoza Red Label Toros. Quick aside, if I were posting a top ten list this year, the Arandoza would be darned near the top. Great cigars from this company, The Blue and White labels are outstanding, the Red is a flavor bomb (and starts quite strong too!).  Anyway, as usual, Goose’s was well stocked with a lot of great cigars. I also got a couple of Foundry’s Compounds Elements and Musings that I hadn’t tried before, and a Gurkha Cellar Reserve Limitada Solara, which I enjoyed in the lounge.  Joe was waiting in the lounge, and I greeted my friend Bruce on my way to sit with him.  I get to Goose’s infrequently, but it seems I always know a couple guys there.  I had a great time smoking the cigar, chatting with Joe and John.

CAO_ColumbiaOf course, I smoked a bunch of cigars over the past couple weeks, but I tried my best to make it cigars that were featured in that day’s contest ff I had them.  One of the ones that was new to me that I smoked for the fist time was the CAO Columbia, which I really enjoyed. It was early in the day, and I found this to me a really nice, creamy smoke.  As I said before, I love giving away cigars, but it’s even better when they are cigars I personally love, and the vast majority were. I haven’t smoked the Kentucky Fire Cured in the Kyoto size yet, but I have had the KFC in other sizes and while it’s not my cup of tea, I see why people love them.  That’s enough about the contests for now, I hope everyone received your packages, please let me know if you didn’t.  Thanks again for playing along!

That’s it for now, until the next time,

CigarCraig’s 12 Spectacular Days of Cigar Giveaways 2014: Wrap Up!

Well folks, it’s finally over!  It was a great couple weeks worth of great cigar giveaways!  We had a never before seen 14 days!  For that we have a bunch of folks to thank.  Please let all these folks know that we appreciate their generosity.  Nobody HAS to give away their cigars!  We certainly appreciate the opportunity to make a bunch of folks happy and maybe turn people on to some new cigars and brands.  Thanks to the following sponsors:

The Flor de la Reine was the only cigar in the whole 14 days that I had never smoked, but Barry at The Cigar Authority (which is associated with United Cigar Retailers) gives it the thumbs up, so I didn’t have any reservations about including it.  The rest I had smoked in maybe a different size or shape, but I’ve sampled the brand and they are all cigars I really like. There were a total of 274 cigars, three hats, two ashtrays, two t-shirts, two backpacks, a knife, a metal poster, a lighter and a cutter. Shipping costs are yet to be calculated, but I should loo for an official shipping sponsor for next year! Also, there are a couple of people who I missed seeing this year. Please join me in remembering George Satterfield and Dawn Christopher, who’s untimely departure from this plane of existence left huge voids in their families lives. I never met them, but they were frequent visitors to the site, and the 12SDoCG event.  I missed seeing their comments, and their families have my sincere condolences. If it means anything, I dedicate this year’s contests to their memory.  On a positive note, the next contest will be on New Years Eve, and I’m wiping the slate clean, everyone is eligible to enter this one, and it will be some good stuff!

Winners!

2014-12-23 08.34You probably want to know who won the crazy Day 14 prize from Miami Cigar and Company, right?  The lucky recipient of the box of Nestor Miranda Collection Habano 46×6, T-shirt, ashtray and back pack is comment number 110, as selected by the random number generator at Random.org.  I adjusted for a post from a prior winner and arrived at Joe K as the winner!  Joe, send me your address so I can get this to you! I actually met Joe at an event a few months ago, so I might be able to save some shipping money and meet him for a smoke someplace!

ArandozaWhiteFinally, the winner of the Arandoza White Labels back on day 7 never sent me his address, and I tried e-mailing twice and both e-mails came back as undeliverable So I picked another name from Day 7’s comments!  Smokin_Dave, please send your address! (I’ll e-mail and hope you gave the right address).  It’s probably best if you enter a contest to check to see if you won (although I’m guilty of forgetting that myself!), but at least leave the right e-mail address! I’m not selling the addresses to spammers or anything, I just would like to be able to contact you to send you cigars!

That’s all for now!  I hope you all enjoyed the last few weeks!  Thank you for participating, I wish I could send each of you a box of great cigars, but I can’t so you’ll just have to keep taking your chances on these contests! 🙂

Until the next time,

CigarCraig’s 12 Spectacular Days of Cigar Giveaways 2014 Day 14!: Miami Cigar and Co

Since it’s Christmas Eve, and the last day of Hanukkah let’s push it on another day! I know what you’re thinking: 13 days was enough already…but a Day 14? You’re crazy!  I think next year if I do this it might have to be CigarCraig’s Fortnight of Festivities or something. Believe me, I wanted to scale it back to CigarCraig’s Eight Crazy Nights or something like that.  And no, I’m not going to do CigarCraig’s 25 Days of Cigar ADVENTures, or anything like that!  So, yes, it’s Day 14, unprecedented and difficult to fathom. Day 13’s  lucky winner of the Cohiba Nicaragua N60 is Matthew Denico. Please send me your address so I can send this beautiful box your way!

It’s Day 14 (of 12….never was very good at math!) and we have some very special goodies from our friends at Miami Cigar and Company.  In today’s very special Christmas Eve present we have some neat stuff from the Nestor Miranda line of cigars. There is a Nestor Miranda T-Shirt (XL), a very cool Nestor Miranda ashtray, and a box of the Nestor Miranda Collection Habano in the 46×6 size (box of 20).  You can put all of that in a nifty Nestor Miranda “One Life” backpack!  The cigars are spectacular, and the SWAG is top notch!  Thank you to Jason Wood at Miami Cigar and Co. and especially Gabriel Piñeres of Creativas Group for making Day 14 possible! I will not be posting the winner tomorrow, so you will have an extra day to enter!

Rules

All you have to do to enter is to leave a comment on that day’s post and if you like, in one sentence tell us what comes to mind when you think of Nestor Miranda Cigars.  It’s not a condition to win, but I’d like for the folks who make this all possible to come away with some consumer feedback.  Also, be sure to visit the links for each item. Comments on Facebook, Twitter, or anywhere else will not count, but feel free to spread the word!

CigarCraig’s 12 Spectacular Days of Cigar Giveaways 2014 Day 13?: Cohiba Cigars

It should come as no surprise that we are, once again, going to Day 13!  It’s a Festivus miracle! I was overwhelmed by the response from my dear friends in the cigar industry. Haven’t they been great?  Please remember to thank all the generous  participants, without whom this would be VERY expensive for me!  Let’s just hope the FDA doesn’t get in the way of our fun, and make sure you join Cigar Rights of America (or Europe, or Canada) so we have a chance to continue to enjoy cigars the way we have. Last night I smoked an Arandoza Red Label toro that I picked up at To’Makao cigars in Bethlehem, PA Sunday. This cigar is a powerhouse, with TONS of dark, rich flavor. If I were making a list, this would be at the top for me this year, I think. Terrific cigar! I know, you want to know who won the box of Arandoza Red Label,  and that lucky individual is Xolotal Mungin.  Make sure to send me your address so I can get this out to you!  And now, on to Day 13!

Cohiba Nicaragua

Cohiba_Nicaragua_Open_LowRes

Day 13 brings us another cigar from General Cigar Co., the new Cohiba Nicaragua.  This is Cohiba’s first cigar to be made in Nicaragua with Nicaraguan tobacco from Esteli and Jalapa, wrapped with a Colorado oscuro wrapper.  Today’s present is the Cohiba Nicaragua N60, the largest size in the line at 6″ x 60.  This is a box of 16 cigars. I’ve smoked the robusto in this line and it’s spectacular.  Thank again to Victoria and the folks at General Cigar Co. for their unwavering support.
