Podcast: Episode 8: Omar de Frias of Fratello Cigars

Craig and OmarI happened to run into my buddy Omar de Frias of Fratello Cigars at Old Havana Cigar Co. in West Chester. PA and mic’d up and we chatted about Fratello cigars and extra-terrestrial life. I’m stretching the truth a little, I knew Omar was coming up to do an event, and he kindly agreed to meet me a little early to chat before it got started. If you’re unfamiliar with Fratello cigars, you’re clearly new to CigarCraig.com, as I’ve been posting content about the brand since 2012 when he came on the scene.

Podcast: CigarCraig Podcast Episode Five: Cigar Prop with Kevin Shahan

Kevin Shahan is an entrepreneur who makes products to suit his own needs and put them on the market! His cigar props are beautifully made and designed, and his lighter bleeding tool is something everyone who has a butane lighter needs to have. In my 20 years of interacting with cigar smokers on the internet, I’ve taken pride in the fact that I’ve personally met many hundreds of those people, and I’m quite pleased that Kevin is among those I have met face to face and feel privileged to call him a friend. He’s someone who came across my blog and started a conversation, like many of you. Cigars are good for that. So check out CigarProp.com to see Kevin’s wares, or check them out on Amazon.com.

We also smoked and talked about the Fat Bottom Betty from Drew Estate’s Deadwood Tobacco Company’s Crazy Bitches line, I enjoy those quite a bit for a change of pace, loads of unique flavors! Although some of the audio isn’t great, I hope you enjoy this episode! I’m still working on technical aspects, this time I thought I had something good, but it turned out I didn’t, fortunately Kevin had my back, recording it from his end. I’ll get this figured out, I promise…Thanks to Kevin for joining me on the show!

Until the next time,

Podcast: CigarCraig Podcast Episode Four

In this, the fourth episode of the CigarCraig podcast, I present another recap of the Drew Estate Pennsylvania Barnsmoker held Saturday, June 23, 2018 in Strasburg, PA., this time with Pedro Gomez, Drew Estate’s Factory Spokesman. Pedro talks to me about the event. A full recap of the event can be found here.  I had hoped to talk with a few other people at the event, but everyone there is so busy, it’s hard to get people to get a few minutes uninterrupted, which, you’ll hear, didn’t even happen with Pedro, who was very generous with his time (we go way back!).  Barnsmoker’s are a good time, a great mix of education, good food and smokes a great people.  If there’s one you can get to, I recommend attending one if you can. I can hardly imagine one being disappointed if one were a fan of anything cigar related.

That’s all for today, until the next time,

Podcast: CigarCraig Podcast Episode Three

In episode three of the CigarCraig Podcast I talk about my annual Father’s day tradition of smoking a special cigar that was made to benefit the children orphaned by hurricane Mitch in 1998 and it’s origins, and talk for a few minutes with Room 101 brand owner, Matt Booth.

EsperanzaEsperanza para los Niños was a cigar that Christian Eiroa made in his Camacho Factory in 1999 along with several members of the alt.smokers.cigars Usenet group who flew down to Rancho Jamastran at Christian’s invitation in what might have been one of the first consumer factory tours. The resulting cigars sold for between $77 and $87 a box with about $37 per box going directly toward educating children who lost their parents in the aftermath of hurricane Mitch in late 1998. The cigars became available in July of 1999 and something like 2500 boxes were made. I purchased a box as a Father’s Day gift for myself in 2000, and will smoke the last one from that box in 2020.  The second part of the podcast features a post event interview with Matt Booth, who got his start with Christian Eiroa, so it ties together.

Podcast: CigarCraig Podcast Episode One

It’s been a couple of weeks since I announced I’d be jumping into this podcast thing, and I’ve been trying desperately to figure out an angle that hasn’t been done yet, I don’t want to do the same thing everyone else is doing!  So I had the audio from a conversation I had in 2010 with George Hamilton. He’s not just a Hollywood icon, author and famed ladies man, George Hamilton loves cigars.  Not only does he love them, but his knowledge of the growing and manufacture go well beyond that of even the most hardcore enthusiast. From landing in Havana in January of 1959 and being detained by the revolution (read “Don’t Mind if I Do”!), to having brands of cigars and cigar bars bearing his name,  Mr. Hamilton knows cigars and took some time out of his busy day to speak with me about them. I transcribed the recording, which, by the way, was made using very old technology involving cassette tape, and posted it in text form (here). I have another iconic interview recorded that might make it into a future episode! In the mean time I’m still trying to come up with a solid concept, so send in your ideas!

Thanks for taking the time to listen! Until the next time,

CigarCraig
