News: Mi Querida Triqui Traca Offered at 2019 IPCPR Trade Show

Tuesday news from Dunbarton Tobacco and Trust. I haven’t tried the Triqui Traca, and I’m a little sad about that.  I’ve smoked a bunch of the Firecrackers (I am waiting for delivery of the latest Firecrackers, by the way!), and I can’t wait to get ahold of the Triqui Tracas! I am a big Mi Querida fan and the extra oomph in that blend is extra special.

Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust® will be showcasing its Mi Querida® Triqui Traca of handcrafted cigars at this year’s 87th Annual Convention of the International Premium Cigar & Pipe Retailers Association in Las Vegas, Nevada, June 28th through July 2nd, 2019.

“Mi Querida Triqui Traca, pronounced ‘me kay-ree-dah tree-kee trah-ka’, is arguably our boldest cigar released to date,” shares Founder and Master Ligador Steve Saka. Adding, “At its core, it remains our quintessential Mi Querida blend with its earthy, sweet broadleaf notes, but with the incorporation of a couple refinements. The capa has been switched from the traditional Connecticut Broadleaf Mediums to the rarer No. 1 Dark corona leaves plus a unique, high octane ligero grown in the Dominican Republic has also been introduced into the liga. The resulting cigar retains its inherent sweet loam and chocolate characteristics, yet delivers a significantly heavier smoking experience.”

Saka explains, “’Triqui Traca’ is Nicaraguan slang for oversized firecrackers that are connected by fuses in a long serial string. These explosive ropes are then laid down in the center of a street and sometimes stretch multiple blocks. Ignited from one end, they explode in a cascading line of powerful concussions and blinding light down the entire length of the street. Triqui Traca are often lit in celebration of important religious and national holidays. This cultural icon is an ideal moniker for the explosive nature of this cigar.”

Mi Querida Triqui Traca will be offered to Select Purveyors and will be initially available in only two formats: No. 552 – 5.00 x 52 and the No. 648 – 6.00 x 48. The cigars will feature a red band and chevron on the box corner to easily identify them from the core Mi Querida liga. Packed in 20 count SBN boxes, the MSRP ranges from $10.75 to $11.75 respectively per cigar. Initial availability of these cigars will be extremely limited due to tobacco constraints.

The anticipated ship date to those Select Purveyors who order at this year’s trade show is September 2019.

News: Southern Draw Announces Rose Of Sharon Desert Rose IPCPR Release

Once again, Southern Draw has another cigar being released at the IPCPR show, this time another line extension to the Rose of Sharon line. There’s only a few reasons I’m disappointed to be missing the show, and showing support for this company is one of them. Great people and great cigars.

A new Rose of Sharon – is DESERT bound.

Southern Draw Cigars’ blend with the iconic “pink band” will offer a perfect oasis in the scorching desert for the attendees of IPCPR 2019.  The DESERT ROSE is a hearty sun-loving cigar that thrives in these hot temperatures, a perfect addition to the Rose of Sharon premium cigar line.

“Desert Rose, has a heartier wrapper and is a more robust version of our original blend, a symbol of the family as we stand our ground and confront the changing seasons and mounting challenges that we continue to encounter as we execute our mission of unity, charity and the service via this little brand,” per Sharon Holt – aka the boss lady.    The Desert Rose is covered in a velvety smooth Ecuadorian cloud-grown Claro wrapper, and integrity from a thick and flavorful Condega, Nicaraguan Habano binder and a new filler combination marrying both Corojo 99 and Piloto Cubano ligeros from Honduras and the Dominican Republic. The Desert Rose is an almost flawless medium bodied, medium flavored cigar that is as beautiful as the original blend while offering a buttery smooth yet spicy “burst of flavor” with each draw before yielding to a very clean palate.  We leave the rest of the images and unique flavor transitions to those that choose to make a purchase.

Southern Draw Cigars is honored to have Cigar Coop front and center in Booth #3061 on Saturday June 29th at approximately 11 a.m. for the LIVE unveiling of the Desert Rose.  Limited samples of the new release will be available to select media members and valued retail partners of Southern Draw Cigars.  Southern Draw Cigars will join Cigar Coop for Prime Time Special Edition #57 episode July 23, 9:15 EDT to smoke together and highlight this new release, offering a chance to win fabulous SWAG and cigars to the podcast audience.

Rose of Sharon is the beautiful cigar blended to represent the beauty and personality of Sharon Holt, a founder of Southern Draw Cigars and the NEW release Desert Rose has been produced in Esteli, Nicaragua at the A.J. Fernandez Cigar Co. and will be made available in a single size, Belicoso Fino 5.5 x 52 (box pressed).  Total release for 2019 is 75,000 cigars (full production of 150,000 cigars is scheduled for 2020, 2021 etc.) and is scheduled to be released in equal amounts in July, September and November 2019. News: Southern Draw Cigars commemorates its LUSTRUM

Southern Draw has been loaded with news this year, this one highlights their 5 year anniversary cigar.

Once every five years, Southern Draw Cigars plans to release a special onetime blend to celebrate the family’s commitment to the growing brand.  To be known as the LUSTRUM– meaning a five year period, the limited production offerings will be very small batches of 25,000 – 75,000 total cigars.  The first special blend is scheduled for release at IPCPR 2019.

The company has designated the initial release as the Kudzu LUSTRUM, celebrating the original Kudzu cigar blend offered by Southern Draw Cigars which was first produced by our exclusive factory partner A.J. Fernandez Cigar Co. in 2014.  The blend of this limited productionNicaraguan puro is comprised of a thick and oily Medio-Tiempo Habano wrapper with Nicaraguan Ometepe binder and vintage Nicaraguan long-leaf filler tobaccos delivering a harmonious balance of what the company characterizes as medium+ strength, flavor and aroma finished in an elegant box pressed format.  Medio Tiempo wrappers are rarely used and reserved for some of the most expensive and revered cigars in the industry. If we were entering a BBQ cook-off this summer and only had a single cut of meat to submit to the judges, the LUSTRUM would be a consensus choice by the family.  Offering extravagant and rather pricey vintage tobaccos at a blue collar price, a thank you to those who have supported the brand over the last five years.  We think we have a cigar worthy of celebrating the first five years of Southern Draw – a family company that by the Grace of God and for the love and support of an industry – has made it longer and been more consistent than many expected. Enjoy the LUSTRUM and share your feedback and reviews.” Robert Holt – Founder.

Kudzu LUSTRUM has been expertly constructed inEsteli, Nicaragua at the A.J. Fernandez Cigar Co. and will be made available in a single size, Belicoso Fino 5.5 x 52 (box pressed) with a total of 2,500, 10 count paper mazos (bundles) featuring hand drawn art depicting the family’s prior military service and the history of our little cigar brand.  Priced at ONLY $11.89 each or $118.99 per 10 count mazo.

Southern Draw Cigars will be joined by Cigar Dojo in Booth #3061 on Saturday June 28th at approximately 10 a.m. A LIVE unveiling of the Kudzu LUSTRUM, making it available to select media members and valued retail partners of Southern Draw Cigars.  Southern Draw Cigars will then join Cigar Dojo for an episode of Smoke Night Live in July (TBA) to celebrate our 1st LUSTRUM where we will offer fabulous SWAG and cigars to Dojo Nation.

A one-time retail exclusive release of 220, 20 count boxes of the Kudzu LUSTRUM Toro 6.0 x 52 were released at Smokin in the Carolinas, JR Cigar Burlington, NC on June 8, 2019 and will soon be available at select Case de Montecristo and JR Cigar retail locations.

News: Casa Cuevas Cigars to Release “La Mandarria”

Here’s some more news from Casa Cuevas.  I hope someone around here starts to carry their cigars so I can get my hands on some!  I was talking to Jack Toraño about them a few weeks ago.

CASA CUEVAS CIGARS TO RELEASE “LA MANDARRIA” AT THE 2019 IPCPR

Only 500 boxes of La Mandarria will be available to the public.

Casa Cuevas Cigars, makers of handmade premium cigars to release “La Mandarria” (translates to the sledgehammer) at 2019 IPCPR. La Mandarria brand was born out of the unfortunate robbery which occurred in February 2019 at the Casa Cuevas Cigars distribution center in Miami. Burglars used sledgehammers to break in and steal over 25,000 of the Casa Cuevas brands which included the Casa Cuevas Limited Edition Flaco and Casa Cuevas core line of cigars. The Cuevas family made the decision to forge ahead and create a cigar that will mark the era where they faced and overcame adversity.

For years The Cuevas family patriarch, Luis Cuevas Sr., has been the man behind the curtain for many popular cigar brands. Their factory, the Las Lavas Cigar Factory in the Dominican Republic, has created brands for some of the most globally popular cigar companies. It was only three years ago that the Cuevas family felt it was time to create their own brand: Casa Cuevas Cigars. Luis Jr., son of Luis Cuevas, Sr., who runs the Cuevas operations in Miami, looks to honor his father, who himself made many sacrifices, went through much adversity as a U.S. immigrant, and was forced to leave his homeland of Cuba many years ago.

President of Casa Cuevas Cigars, Luis Cuevas Jr. stated:” La Mandarria is a testament to the values that my father taught me as a child. He was a fighter who optimized the American dream. As a small cigar company, the robbery was an obstacle, but nothing he hasn’t been able to deal with in his storied past. The Mandarria represents the principal tool used against us, but also represents the strength and will of my father. We look forward to sharing “La Mandarria” with the public in Las Vegas at the 2019 IPCPR”.

The Mandarria is a full-bodied cigar that will be offered in only one vitola. The 6X52 Toro was chosen as Master Blender Luis Cuevas Sr. felt this vitola was a perfect balance between its strength, which is a representation of the “Mandarria” name, and the cigar’s nuanced flavors.

Wrapped in beautiful Ecuadorean Habano wrapper and featuring a pig tail and shaggy foot, these cigars will be the first full-body and full-strength cigars in the Casa Cuevas line-up. MSRP is $12.00 per cigar, and initial production will be limited to 500 boxes.

Casa Cuevas Cigars will also present the newly announced Cuevas Reserva brand, as well as the core Casa Cuevas line of cigars at their first ever booth (855) at the IPCPR at the Sands Convention center, Las Vegas.

ABOUT Casa Cuevas Cigars:

Casa Cuevas Cigars was established in 2016 but has decades old history behind it. Cuban born Master Blender Luis Cuevas Sr. has been blending cigars from his factory in the Dominican Republic for many popular cigar brands. Now, together with son Luis Cuevas Jr., the Casa Cuevas Cigar brands were created to honor their four-generation cigar heritage. Currently the Casa Cuevas Cigars line of brands include the Casa Cuevas core line, the Casa Cuevas Limited Edition Flaco, the Cuevas Reserva, and the Limited Edition Mandarria.
